Connecting Shopify

Feedsmith needs permission to read your Shopify products before it can download them. You give that permission once. Feedsmith only reads data and never changes anything in your store.

There are two ways to connect. The quicker way is to install the Feedsmith app from the Shopify App Store. Otherwise, you can create your own app in Shopify.

Install the Feedsmith app from the Shopify App Store

1. Click Install from the Shopify App Store. You can find the button on the shop's Settings tab under Input feed, and on the Add shop page when you choose Shopify. You can also find Feedsmith in the Shopify App Store yourself.
2. Install the app and approve the permissions Shopify shows you.
3. Shopify sends you back to Feedsmith. If you aren't signed in, sign in or create an account, and Feedsmith brings you back to the same page afterwards.
4. Feedsmith shows "Connect your-store.myshopify.com to Feedsmith". Pick the Feedsmith shop for that store, or create a new one. The first download then starts.

When it works, the settings show your store with "via the Feedsmith Shopify app". If you see "Shopify didn't finish connecting", open Feedsmith again from Apps in your Shopify admin.

You have 15 minutes after approving the app to pick a shop. If you take longer, open Feedsmith from Apps in your Shopify admin and Shopify asks you to approve it again.

The connection renews itself each time Feedsmith downloads your products. If the shop doesn't download for 90 days, e.g. because you paused it, you need to connect it again.

Connect with your own app

Open Use your own app credentials on the shop's Settings tab and follow these steps.

1. In your store's Shopify admin, go to Settings, then Apps, then Develop apps, then Build apps in Dev Dashboard.
2. Create an app named Feedsmith.
3. Create a version of the app with these Admin API scopes, then release it: read_products, read_inventory, read_locations and read_metaobjects.
4. Install the app on your store.
5. Copy the app's Client ID and Client secret into Feedsmith and click Save changes.

You need all four scopes for every field to work. read_locations is used for Stock per location, and read_metaobjects is used to show metaobject names in metafields. Without read_metaobjects, those metafields show a long ID such as gid://shopify/Metaobject/123 instead of the name.

The app and the store must belong to the same Shopify organisation. If Shopify rejects the client ID and secret, create the app from the store's own admin, as in step 1, and try again.

Saved secrets

Feedsmith stores client secrets and tokens encrypted and never shows them again. The box shows "Saved — leave blank to keep", so leave it empty to keep the saved value. If you change the shop domain, Feedsmith clears the saved secrets and you need to connect again.

Disconnect

Click Disconnect to make Feedsmith forget the connection. Downloads fail until you connect again. Disconnecting doesn't remove the app from Shopify. To remove it, go to Settings, then Apps in your Shopify admin.
