Feedsmith checks every product in a channel's feed against the channel's rules, e.g. Google's limit of 150 characters for a title. The channel's Feed review tab shows what it found and gives the feed a quality score from 0 to 100. The checks run on the final feed, after mapping, merging and include and exclude rules.
Fixing issues here before the channel sees them means fewer products are rejected, e.g. in Google Merchant Center.
Each issue has a severity.
| Severity | Shown as | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| High | Error | The channel will probably reject the product. Listed under Required fixes. |
| Medium | Warning | The product is accepted but may perform worse. Listed under Recommended improvements. |
| Low | Tip | A small improvement. Listed under Recommended improvements. |
A product with at least one error counts as a product with errors. A product with issues but no errors counts as a product with warnings, and that includes products that only have tips. A product with no issues is Ready.
| Issue | Severity | What it means | How to fix it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Empty field (required) | Error | A required field is empty for the product. | Map it for every product, or add an Otherwise rule so no product is left empty. |
| Invalid value | Error | The value isn't one the channel allows, e.g. availability = Available. | Use Use lookup table or Replace multiple values to translate your values, e.g. Available => in stock. |
| Invalid GTIN | Error | gtin isn't 8, 12, 13 or 14 digits with a correct check digit. | Fix the barcode, or leave gtin empty rather than send a wrong one. |
| Identifier not unique | Error | Two or more products have the same id. | Map id to variant_id, or merge variants. |
| Invalid URL | Error | A link field doesn't start with http:// or https://, or contains a space. | Map the full address. |
| Invalid price format | Error | A price isn't a number with up to 2 decimals, a space and a 3-letter currency, e.g. 79.00 NZD. | Add Round and Add suffix {{currency}}. Custom channels skip this check. |
| Sale price not lower than price | Error | sale_price is the same as or more than price. | Only map sale_price when the product is on sale. |
| Value too long | Error | A value has more characters than the channel allows, e.g. a Google title over 150. | Add Shorten (max length). |
| UPI missing | Warning | The product has no gtin and no mpn, and identifier_exists isn't no. Google-style channels only. | Map gtin or mpn, or set identifier_exists to no for products you make yourself. |
| Empty field (recommended) | Warning | A recommended field is empty. | Map it if you have the data. |
| Duplicate GTIN | Warning | Several products share one gtin. | Check your barcodes. |
| Title too short | Tip | The title is under 25 characters. Google and Meta channels only. | Add the brand, product type, colour or size. |
| Description too short | Tip | The description is under 50 characters. Google and Meta channels only. | Write a longer description. |
| No additional images | Tip | additional_image_link is mapped but empty. Google and Meta channels only. | Add more product images. |
Empty sale_price, additional_image_link, gtin and mpn fields don't count as "Empty field (recommended)", because many products don't need them.
Each issue shows the field, the number and share of products affected, and how to fix it. Click an issue to see up to 25 example products with their ID, title and value. Click Fix to go straight to that field on the Map fields tab. Click Download report (CSV) to get every issue as a spreadsheet.
On the channel's Products tab, the Issues column shows each product's issues.
The score starts at 100, and Feedsmith takes points off for three things:
As a formula:
score = 100 × (1 − 0.6 × E − 0.25 × W − 0.15 × D)
Here E is the share of products with errors, W is the share of products with warnings but no errors, and D is the number of issues divided by the number of products, divided by 5, and never more than 1. Each issue type is counted once per product and field. The score is rounded to a whole number and is never below 0.
For example, a feed of 1,000 products has 50 products with errors, 200 with only warnings, and 400 issues in total:
so the score is 100 − 3 − 5 − 1.2 = 90.8, rounded to 91. Score breakdown on the tab shows these three parts for your feed. The tab also shows the share of products that are ready, which is 75% in the example.
